Delaware’s Nonprofit Sector: The Economic Impact Behind the Mission

For years, Delaware nonprofits have struggled to quantify the impact they have as a sector on the state's economy. Thanks to a new Economic Impact of Delaware Nonprofits study commissioned by DANA and the Delaware Nonprofit Action Network (DNAN), nonprofits have the hard data demonstrating that the sector is a significant employer in the state that contributions billions of dollars in economic activity annually. This data is intended to help individual nonprofits and the sector as a whole to more accurately quantify and convey the true impact that nonprofits have in Delaware. This webinar will help organizations put the report and its findings into action.

During this webinar, presenters will brief attendees on the findings of the economic impact study, examining the size, scope, and contributions of Delaware’s nonprofit sector. Participants will explore key data on nonprofit employment, wages, and economic activity. The webinar will provide actionable steps about how nonprofits can utilize these findings in their messaging strategies to aid them in better conveying the positive impacts nonprofits have on their communities to policymakers, funders and community partners.

During this webinar, presenters and attendees will: 
  1. Review and examine key findings from the economic impact report, including data on nonprofit employment, wages, spending, and overall economic activity in Delaware. 
  2. Explore the role of the nonprofit sector in supporting Delaware’s economy, workforce, communities, and quality of life and how the data enhances that narrative.
  3. Discuss ways to use the report’s findings and data to strengthen communications, advocacy, fundraising, and conversations with policymakers, funders, community partners, and the public.

About Anne Jensen, Consultant | Anne transforms research and analysis into actionable strategies that help communities build equitable, resilient futures. She specializes in blending qualitative and quantitative insights to guide clients through the day-to-day challenges of economic and community development. Anne’s expertise includes housing and economic development planning, racial disparity analysis, and data storytelling using tools such as GIS mapping and visualization to clarify complex regional dynamics. Her work bridges local context with national best practices to help communities act decisively toward inclusive growth. At Fourth Economy, Anne has contributed to major initiatives across the country, including the Economic Mobility Strategies for Nashua, New Hampshire and Gresham, Oregon, where her work helped local leaders design practical pathways to address poverty, improve access to opportunity, and strengthen community partnerships. She also supported the York County Economic Development Five-Year Update, advancing strategies that connect housing, workforce, and business growth, and contributed to the Stafford County Economic Development Strategy, where her analysis informed approaches to sustainable infrastructure, transportation, and talent attraction. Anne holds a Master of Public Policy and Management from the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies with concentrations in Race and Ethnicity and Sociology from the University of Virginia. Before joining Fourth Economy, Anne held research and policy roles focused on community engagement, equity, and public management. She is passionate about translating data into meaningful narratives that empower local decision-making. Outside of her professional work, Anne is an active community leader. She is a member of HYPE (Helping Young Professionals Engage) Richmond and serves on the Young Professionals Board of the Sports Backers Alliance, where she supports initiatives that foster active, connected, and inclusive communities.


About Jerry Paytas, Vice President, Research & Analysis | I am a planner and regional economist with experience conducting a wide range of demographic and industry analysis at the local, state, regional, and national levels. My project experience includes comprehensive economic development strategies, site development strategies, market analysis, economic impact, program evaluation, and regional projections and modeling. Prior to Fourth Economy, I ran the Center for Economic Development at Carnegie Mellon University at taught at the Heinz College. I serve on the boards of Landmarks Development Corporation, the University of Pittsburgh Human Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee, the University of Pittsburgh Master of Science in Quantitative Economics program, and Humanities Engage.
