Development Director

The Director of Development is responsible for developing and leading the School’s strategic development plan and achieving revenue goals of over $1.3M annually. The Development Director will also be responsible for developing and maintaining active and productive relationships with board members, donors, and administration. The Development Director is a member of the school’s administrative team reporting to the President.


This position demands strong communication and managerial skills in order to maintain a close working relationship with the President, the faculty, staff, and students, as well as parents and the community at large. Anticipated starting salary is $80,000.


Primary Responsibilities:


Fundraising

  • Manages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations.
  • Designs and implements strategic development plan, which includes all fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects, events, and other school-related solicitations.
  • Maintains contact with and develops grant proposals to foundations and corporations.
  • Creates office systems to support all Development projects and operations.
  • Supervises donor and gift record-keeping.
  • Coordinates development research activities.
  • Oversees the management of databases and all records, files, and gift processing and ensures compliance with.
  • Manages the pledge reminder and acknowledgement programs.
  • Works with the Development and Finance Committees of the Board of Directors and the Executive Director to develop strategies to initiate and meet aggressive fundraising goals.
  • Develops fundraising training for Board of Directors and other leadership volunteers.
  • Assumes responsibility for all Development reports to the Board and other agencies and attends all Board meetings.
  • Assists the Board with recommending and researching potential new members.
  • Works closely with the Marketing Communications Committee and President to develop public relations and marketing plan.
  • Designs and manages production of all major publications, including newsletters, annual report, the school’s website.
  • Creates and implements a communication and promotional plan for capital campaigns.
  • Develops and implements strategies to promote Serviam Girls Academy’s mission to both the internal constituencies and the community at large.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and/or a quota of over $1M annually.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development.
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new donors and funding sources.
  • Ability to think and act strategically in the process of identifying cultivating and soliciting of individual and institutional giving prospects.
  • Strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising and appropriate solicitation techniques.
  • Ability to lead multiple long- and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines; ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work; ability to work unsupervised and make decisions and solve problems independently, effectively, and creatively.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, to adapt and respond to various situations.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to effectively work with a variety of people and personalities; ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing.
  • Ability to manage and present information with staff, board of directors and donor. Ability to interact with diplomacy and tact amid influential clients and diverse groups.
  • Understands the confidential nature of fundraising efforts and donor information and maintains confidences.
  • Proficiency in using donor relations software, e-mail, electronic calendars, word processing, Excel, document and presentation templates, and Internet.
