Description

Special Olympics Delaware (SODE) seeks a Director of Volunteers that is responsible for providing strategic thinking, direction, and support to enhance the volunteer experience throughout all levels of Special Olympics programming. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage the recruitment, placement, and tracking the day-of volunteers for competitions, fundraisers, and special events, as well as long-term volunteers (i.e., coaches, team assistants).
  • Oversee and coordinate all new volunteers through trainings, orientations, and placement.
  • Assist Community Programs in building and strengthening their Area Leadership Teams.
  • Evaluate and implement the Volunteer Recruitment and Retention plan.
  • Develop a plan to cultivate day-of volunteers into longer term roles and/or year-round engagement.
  • Manage database to ensure all volunteer-related protocols are met, such as coaches’ certifications, required trainings, and background checks.
  • Represent SODE at volunteer fairs and recruitment events.
  • Initiate and coordinate volunteer incentives and recognition.
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding of new Special Olympics athletes to ensure a positive and informative experience through registration to placement in their community program.
  • Oversee athlete registration for each sport seasons and the summer camps.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3 years or more of related experience.
  • Volunteer management and supervisory skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with various groups and organizations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public presentations.
  • Highly organized with the ability to successfully handle multiple projects, prioritize work, and adapt easily to changing priorities.
  • Proven ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to work with Windows operating system.
  • Willingness to travel statewide and work a 40+ hour work week. Some night and weekend work is required.
  • Able to occasionally lift and move 25-50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Compensation

  • Salary range $45,000 - $60,000
  • Full Medical & Dental Benefits, 100% cover for individuals

Schedule

  • 40 hours/week on site
  • Nights and weekends as needed
