Executive Director Job Description
The Laurel Redevelopment Corporation (LRC) https://www.laurelredevelopment.com is an established nonprofit focused on economic development and community revitalization in downtown Laurel, DE. We are seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial and visionary leader to serve as Executive Director. The successful applicant will be a self-starter who can work independently in developing a sustainable community combining rental and owned housing, retail and commercial properties and “Main Street” like programs while overseeing daily operations, financial management and development and community and stakeholder relations. The Executive Director will have the passion and enthusiasm to help LRC evolve to meet the changing demands of the community through its strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategies articulated in the strategic plan and the capacity to anticipate, prepare and adapt the LRC for change.
Oversee all financial activities, including annual budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting; ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting practices
• Lead fundraising efforts and secure federal, state, private, and foundation grants to advance LRC programs
• Advise the Board of Directors on programmatic priorities; develop, implement, and track the annual work plan in line with the strategic plan
• Serve as principal spokesperson; deliver presentations and manage traditional and social media outreach and community engagement strategies
• Manage leasing, rent collection, maintenance, and security for all LRC properties
• Identify, acquire, and redevelop blighted or under-utilized properties in Laurel’s downtown commercial corridor
• Cultivate strong professional relationships with State, County, and Town officials and community partners (e.g., Laurel Historical Society, Delaware DOT, Habitat for Humanity)
• Supervise project development phases for initiatives like The Ramble riverwalk
• Oversee day-to-day office operations
• Represent LRC at special events and perform related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as business administration, marketing, planning, or public administration is preferred.
- Experience: Several years of experience in a related field, including non-profit management, community development, commercial district management or business/real estate development.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software; familiarity with web and social media platforms; proven skill in drafting and negotiating rental agreements; excellent report writing and Board presentation capabilities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication, public relations, and networking skills to build relationships and influence people to work together.
- Knowledge: Understanding of issues facing downtown businesses, property owners, and public agencies, sensitivity to design, economic and community development principles.
- Other Attributes: Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines; ability to work evenings and weekends, lead and motivate volunteers, stay upbeat, and focus on the overall goals of the LRC and community.
Salary Range
$70,000 – $90,000 and health benefit stipend annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
