Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant is responsible for finance, accounting, and budgeting activities for the organization. The Senior Accountant will work closely with Senior Leadership to update them on the financial status of the programs and Housing entities of the organization and how these programs and Housing Entities can continue to support NAMI Delaware. This essential role helps the organization be good stewards of the funds to support our mission and those we serve.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for general ledger, invoicing, cash receipts, cash disbursements, receivables, investment accounting, account reconciliation, bank statement reconciliation, fixed assets, tenant accounting, and monthly closing cycle for the programs and Housing entities of the organization.
- Prepare U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) based financial statements, budgets, and reports.
- Consistently analyze financial data including comparing actual results to budget, monitor progress, and review monthly financial statements with the Chief Financial Officer.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for the Board of Directors to keep them informed of the organization’s financial status, including the Housing Entities.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Chief Financial Officer and other members of Senior Leadership to review finances and discuss any pertinent issues.
- Manage the HUD annual budget and planning process collaborating with the Chief Financial Officer and other members of Senior Management to develop budgets.
- In coordination with the Chief Financial Officer and other members of Senior Leadership, prepare HUD Budget Based Rent Adjustments including applicable Rent Schedules and Budget Worksheets.
- Review all HUD documents with the Chief Financial Officer and other members of Senior Leadership before submission to HUD.
- Analyze rent adjustments received from HUD to determine the impact on future finances and operations and advise Senior Leadership based on analysis.
- In coordination with the Senior Director of Housing and Facilities, prepare Capital Needs Assessments and monitor Reserve and Replacement funds to ensure that there are adequate funds for unplanned capital expenditures necessary to keep the housing properties in operation.
- Continuously monitor cash flows and immediately communicate to the Chief Financial Officer cash flow issues. Prepare detailed cash projections as needed or requested by Senior Leadership.
- In coordination with the Senior Director of Housing and Facilities, manage relationships with vendors utilized to assist in the maintenance of Housing properties. Verify that competitive bids have been obtained for larger projects as appropriate.
- Manage commercial banking relationships relative to financing and credit resources for all Housing entities.
- Provide the Chief Financial Officer with all required reports in a timely manner.
- Participate in the annual insurance renewal and provide information as requested.
- Manage contracts with the State of Delaware and participate in the RFP process as needed.
- Responsible for all invoicing related to Housing contracts in compliance with contract terms.
- Coordinate all audit and 990 activities with the external auditors for the Housing entities and prepare appropriate schedules as needed.
- Ensure funds designated for housing and facilities are properly utilized and comply with all regulations and restrictions.
- Ensure all reporting requirements and deadlines are met.
- Maintain accurate and current vendor files, including W9s, and prepare annual Form 1099s in accordance with IRS guidelines.
- Develop and implement internal controls and accounting procedures for the Housing entities.
- As appropriate, act as a backup to the Chief Financial Officer for essential tasks.
- All other tasks as appropriate and assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
Experience, Education and Licensure:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- QuickBooks experience is a plus.
- Experience with HUD reporting is a plus.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required.
- Solid experience managing reporting, budget development and analysis, all phases of transactional accounting and coordination of audit activities.
- Technology savvy to address software and hardware needs to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization.
- Ability to meet people with ease; ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact and diplomacy.
- Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills allowing for strategic data interpretation versus basic reporting.
- Good organizational skills; well disciplined, able to meet deadlines, able to take initiative, able to work under pressure of many priorities and deadlines.
- Fluency in English is essential.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- This position requires a background check and drug screen.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
