ENVISION: Diversity and Race Equity for Boards of Directors
Boards of Directors value the diversity of thought and leadership that its members bring to the governance table, but research shows that as much as 90% of boards are demographically white. This creates a racial leadership gap that may create blind spots in leadership and reduce problem solving and critical strategic thinking.
Valuing a diverse board needs to be advanced into action that boards can become more equipped to lead their organizations towards a race equity culture. This webinar will review national, as well as, Oklahoma-based research on board diversity and share the practical steps a board can take to become more committed, more knowledgeable, and more skilled in analyzing race, racism, and race equity and in placing these issues at the forefront of organizational and operational strategy.
This event will take place for two sessions on January 14 with a break in between:

Speaker: Janetta Cravens
Janetta Cravens has been helping nonprofit leaders and executives communicate the big-picture about themselves and their organizations for more than 20 years. She is a BoardSource certified trained consultant in board governance, and a licensed consultant with the Standards for Excellence program, the nation’s leading resource in nonprofit best practices. She is also a member of the Standards for Excellence Council for the national Standards for Excellence Institute. By profession, Janetta is an executive coach, organizational developer, ordained minister, and community organizer who built her career working at the intersection of social justice and community change. In practice she is a mentor, leader, instructor, and analyst that believes in every person and organization with whom she works. Her work around diversity, equity, inclusion, and inter-religious awareness has helped hundreds of nonprofit leaders become more effective in reaching their clients and expanding their mission. As the Vice President of Programs for the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, she oversees the consulting, professional development, and membership programs the Center offers to the 18,000 nonprofits throughout the state. She is a frequent consultant, speaker, and instructor for nonprofit professionals and boards of directors on topics of leadership and organizational development, fundraising and grant writing, nonprofit ethics and board governance, diversity and inclusion, performance management, and strategic and action planning.
