Join Ms. Erika Broadwater and Dr. Devona Williams who will address the topic of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace from perspectives of talent management and organizational development. This workshop will provide practical tools and skills for nonprofit leaders to create a more just workplace. 

Participants will understand how workplace culture and environment impacts talent acquisition, retention and advancement and the role of human resources in developing an inclusive workplace. 

Topics include: 

•How organizational culture influences diverse talent acquisition, advancement and retention.
•Practical tips for organizations to limit bias in the recruitment and selection process. •Developing human resources policies on diversity, equity and inclusion that impact workplace culture and employee behavior.
•Five HR strategies to transition into a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.


About the Presenters

Dr. Devona E. G. Williams, President/CEO, Goeins-Williams Associates, Inc. (GWA)

As President/CEO of GWA, Dr. Williams has contributed her talents to helping over 50000 individuals in hundreds of organizations increase their performance and effectiveness. Based in Clayton, Delaware, this year marks GWA’s 30th Anniversary.

Williams and her company provide organizational assessments, strategy and professional development in cultural diversity, leadership, and team building. Her firm has facilitated diversity training for nearly 10000 employees in hundreds of organizations including corporations, governments, hospitals, law firms, universities, school districts and nonprofit organizations.

Dr. Williams is a frequent speaker on business, diversity, leadership, motivation, and success and is often quoted in the media on these topics. She is author of The Intentional Consultant: How to grow a sustainable practice, contributing author to the inspirational book, Remarkable Women and creator of the internationally best-selling Spice of Life® Diversity Card training tool.

Additionally, Dr. Williams is an experienced assistant and associate professor of Organizational and Community Leadership and Human Resources and Public Policy and long term  instructor with the  University’s Non-Profit Certificate Course. Prior to starting her company Williams was a corporate executive with DuPont and held various federal and state legislative and administrative appointments.

A dedicated public servant, Dr. Williams is the Chair of the Board of Trustees and Foundation of Delaware State University and is a member of the Governor’s Council on Supplier Diversity. Dr. Williams holds a doctorate in Urban Affairs & Public Policy, University of Delaware with specializations in social policy analysis and urban systems planning and received the University of Delaware's Presidential Citation for Outstanding Achievement and the Distinguished Alumna Award from the University's College of Urban Affairs & Public Policy (1995). The company has been named a Top 100 MBE in the region. Outstanding Woman Owned business by the Denver Business Journal and the Delaware Today Magazine and is a recipient of the Marvin S. Gilman Superstars in Business Award.

Erika Broadwater has over 26 years of experience in Human Resources progressively building her career as a strategic talent and human capital leader. Over the last 7 years, her management roles have included Head of Talent Acquisition North America, Diversity & Inclusion Consultant, and Recruiting Operations Manager. She currently sits on the Employer Attractiveness and Talent Acquisition Center of Excellence Board as a North America representative at Essity, focusing on a wide-range of country specific strategic initiatives.

Erika received her bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Cheyney University in Pennsylvania in 1991; thereafter obtaining nine (9) HR Certifications. Erika has been both a consultant and strategic partner for international and domestic industry-leading companies, such as OneMain Financial/Citi, DuPont and VWR International. In 2011, she was appointed the first Delaware State Chapter President of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources. After 6 years of building the chapter and demonstrating exemplary leadership throughout the State, the National Board of Directors promoted her to the Senior Vice President of Membership on the National Board. As of February 2019, she was once again promoted and installed as the new National President of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources.

Among several awards and recognitions, Erika was the recipient of the “Women in Leadership, Development and Empowerment” award in 2019, nominated for the 2016 Ron Shane “Human Resources Lifetime Achievement award, recipient of the 2016 NAAAHR National Conference “Most Represented Chapter” award, and published in the 2010/2011 Global Directory of “Who’s Who Among Professionals”.

Outside of her profession, Erika enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Above all, she is a dedicated mother to her awesome children, Tre (her Pride) and Mayah (her Joy).
